Romantic European Art with Vintage Feel (Plus Freebie)

Have you ever traveled to Europe and completely fell in love with the history and beauty there? As an American who’s accustomed to strip malls, huge grocery stores, and drive thrus, being in Europe is like taking a step back in time or walking in one of my favorite movies.

Essentially, I was able to live in Germany for about eight months for study abroad (read my story here) and never took for granted the historical architecture, city walls, and bridges that I saw everyday. I even was able to travel for a few weeks and got to see Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and England. I would love to travel back but until then I reference my photos and romanticize scenes in my mind to create vintage inspired art (with a subtle touch of modern to them.)

I’ve put together a list of my romantic, European paintings and drawings that you can order for your home. I can imagine a tiny oval painting on a nightstand, a vignette of two oval frames hung in a laundry room, a seascape painting in a gilded frame above a toilet in the bathroom, an Eiffel Tower drawing in a girl’s room, or a French cityscape above a bed. My art is for someone who admires Europe and enjoys vintage, muted tones.

A seascape oil painting of the south of France filled with light and texture. This was one of my first oil paintings! (Frame not included)

I adore a simple sketch of iconic French architecture like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The modern gestural lines are my favorite to add.

A gestural sketch of the Eiffel Tower in a classy oval shape that I originally drew on coffee stained paper for an aged look. You could add this print to a rectangular or oval frame!

A moody green painting of Notre Dame. I love monochromatic pieces and the deckled edge on this print is stunning!

This moody oil painting came from my imagination but is inspired by Germany and being content. The marks are inspired by verdure tapestries. The little swan is such a romantic touch. This comes as a lightweight tapestry as well.

A neutral, soft oval painting of the Tiber River in Rome. Bridges are some of my favorite structures to paint. Discovering how they create shadows and let the light in is a beautiful process. (Frame not included)

This originally was a sketch painting of a dreamy scene of the Tower of Pisa for a piece I gifted Vanessa Chaverri-Gratz from @thegratzlife on Instagram. The tower left a lasting impression on her when she saw it on a family trip many years ago.

“Eiffel Tower I” was my first ever painting of the Eiffel Tower, as the name suggests. The neutral, muted color scheme is reminiscent of the vintage artwork I’m often drawn to.

An oval sketch of the Notre Dame that I originally created on coffee stained paper. My favorite marks are the gestural lines for the trees! (Frame not included)

A landscape oil painting of Strasbourg, France. I love all the pops of white that the swans, boats, and French buildings bring to this piece. This is one of my favorite pieces I’ve done.

This is a moody oil painting of a canal in Venice, Italy. Adding the pops of green are my favorite and the deep blues of the water are so magical. (Frame not included)

A neutral oval painting of the Pont Alexandre III bridge in Paris. The gold statues are so stunning and I loved adding them here. I can imagine this on a nightstand or displayed on a layered entryway table.

A sketch of the tower of Pisa that I originally created on coffee stained paper for an antique look. I love the subtle touch of the mountains in the distance. This could be sized up or displayed with an oversize mat. (Frame not included)
